Use the “Asheville Breweries” application to take your own tour of the Asheville area’s breweries!

Wolf Mountain Apps offers an Android application that provides selectable Google Maps markers for the Asheville area’s craft breweries.  Each marker on the map denotes the location of a brewery — selecting a marker displays more details about that brewery such as a hyperlinked website address, selectable phone number, and address.  All this information can be sent to friends through an integrated share feature.  Additionally, there is an integrated “find” function which allows for quick zoom and selection of a particular brewery.  The user’s current location is provided as an overlay on the map, and it is also possible to use satellite view to help better visualize a particular location.  The most recent feature addition is the ability to launch the Google Maps application for turn-by-turn directions, Street View, user reviews, etc.

Asheville, NC has long appealed to visitors and residents alike with its stunning mountain setting, popular attractions like the Biltmore Estate and the Blue Ridge Parkway, and its arts and crafts heritage, and is now also recognized as a national “brewtopia”.  In 2009 Asheville tied with Portland, OR as winner of an informal vote for “Beer City USA” in an Examiner.com poll by Charlie Papazian, one of the most recognized names in the realm of beer and brewing.  Asheville then won the title of “Beer City USA” for 2010, 2011, and 2012 (tie with Grand Rapids, MI) despite its relatively small population of about 80,000 residents.  We take our beer seriously here!

The Asheville area is home to several craft breweries, each serving and distributing multiple beer styles.  These beers are available in-house and in local restaurants, with some distributed further afield regionally and nationally. Enjoy your time sampling some of the Asheville area’s local brews!

The Asheville Breweries application is free and can be found in the Android Market on most Android devices.
