Wolf Mountain Apps has published a series of Android applications titled Secret Coder Lite, Secret Coder, and Secret Coder Pro that provide several coding techniques, such as Morse Code, Caesar shift, AES (Pro only), and even a customizable monoalphabetic cipher (not in Lite) to encrypt a message or to decrypt a message that has already been encrypted. With one of these applications, a user can send these coded messages through various means, such as SMS and email. When sending via email, an attachment containing the coded message is included which can be opened and automatically decoded in a recipient’s Secret Coder app.

On an Android device, select this link to open the Android Market to see the Secret Coder apps, or use a barcode scanner on your Android device to scan the image below:

The Secret Coder apps also allow a user to display an encoded message without the original text in order to challenge others to try to decode the encoded message (using the “Result text” menu item).
The custom code mapping can be edited in Secret Coder and Secret Coder Pro, and can also be emailed to another Secret Coder (or Pro) user. This recipient can then open the attachment and load the custom code mapping into their Secret Coder (or Pro) app, therefore allowing two users to exchange secret messages coded using a common custom code mapping.
Another benefit of the Secret Coder (and Pro) application is that it can be used to help solve cryptogram puzzles by utilizing the custom code mapping.
The Lite version of the Secret Coder application is free, the full version is available for $0.99, and the Pro version can be bought for $1.99. All three versions of the application can be found in the Android Market on most Android devices. The full version of Secret Coder implements everything from Secret Coder Lite, and it also provides several enhancements over Secret Coder Lite, as it:
- Eliminates advertisements.
- Removes the coded message email attachment length restriction (Secret Coder Lite can only send 100 character coded message attachments).
- Provides a customizable code map (that is, you can create your own code), which can be sent and loaded into other users’ Secret Coder apps, and also can be used to help solve cryptogram puzzles.
- Includes selectable themed banners.
Secret Coder Pro includes everything from Secret Coder (full version), and it also implements the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption (128-bit). The US government utilizes AES to protect classified information, and you can use it to protect the secrecy of your messages!
